IOR to deliver 50 million litres of diesel to regional Australia
IOR has successfully secured its first fuel cargo under the commercial framework agreed with the Federal Government and Export Finance Australia (EFA), marking a significant milestone in the effort to stabilise fuel supply to regional Australia during a period of sustained global market disruption.
The commercial framework was agreed in April 2026 to facilitate the quick acquisition and distribution of additional fuel cargoes into the Australian market.
The cargo, which is expected to arrive in early July 2026, will be shared between Queensland and South Australia and will be used to buttress supply to key sectors including agriculture, transport and mining, and reflects positive collaboration between IOR, EFA, and the Federal Government.
IOR CEO Drew Morland, said:
“IOR is proud to be working so constructively with the Federal Government to keep Australia moving and we’re delighted to have a partner that understands the important role we play in supporting our regions and critical industries.
“This is the latest demonstration of the private sector’s capability to bring effective solutions to government that assure reliable fuel supply to the regions, and crucially, to the industries that power the nation.
“The strategic location of Port Bonython is significant not only for South Australia but for national fuel security. It supports key industries across the Upper Spencer Gulf and Eyre Peninsula, including agriculture, as well as the mining sector that helps power the Australian economy.
“We remain committed to working with all levels of government and with EFA to continue the delivery of fuel cargoes into Australia and we will leverage our regional network to ensure volumes are distributed efficiently and equitably to the communities and sectors that depend on reliable fuel supply.
“This announcement follows IOR’s deal with the South Australian Government announced last week to secure and store up to 20 million litres of fuel for the state, reinforcing our role as a trusted government partner in addressing the current fuel crisis and strengthening Australia’s long term fuel resilience.
IOR also welcomes the Albanese Government’s Strengthening Australia’s Fuel Resilience Package announced in the 2026-27 Federal Budget and looks forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand with government to build the supply chain resilience and long-term fuel security that regional Australia and critical industries depend on.”
