Case Study | IOR is Fuelling Queensland’s Red & Yellow Heroes in the Sky

IOR is proud to be the premium aviation fuel partner for the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service Queensland; helping keep Queensland’s red and yellow heroes in the sky.

Operating since 1976, it is one of the oldest community-based rescue helicopter services in the world. The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service Queensland (the service) has two helicopters as part of their fleet with one based on the Gold Coast and another on the Sunshine Coast. Combined, the two helicopters have flown over 5,200 missions, saving countless lives both on and off the beach.

The service needs to be ready 24/7 and at a moment’s notice to respond to emergency situations. Where seconds matter, it is vital that the helicopters have access to an  ongoing bulk Jet A1 fuel supply.

Before becoming a premium supporter of the service,  IOR was the primary fuel supplier.

This means suppling aviation-specific bulk aviation fuel storage equipment, complete with fuel management technology, and bulk aviation fuel deliveries totalling over 500,000L of Jet A1 per annum. Guaranteeing fuel quality, deliveries are made using dedicated Jet A1 fuel tankers fitted with aviation-specific filtration and quality fuel control systems.

IOR’s proprietary fuel management technology, HyDip®, is crucial in ensuring that the service is never left without fuel to fly a mission. The cloud-based technology allows administrators to check fuel tank levels at any point in time, eliminating the need to manually dip the fuel tank.

IOR looks forward to continuing the relationship with Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service Queensland in the future and seeing the service grow.

“Importantly, IOR’s service over the years has helped ensure our aircraft are fuelled, and our pilots and crew are ready to respond to any emergency situations as quickly as possible. They have also helped significantly reduce our risk, by minimising the need to carry our own fuel…We look forward to building upon our relationship with IOR in the years to come.”
