Stewart Morland Takes Top Prize at Surat Basin Energy Awards

As part of this month’s Surat Basin Energy Awards, hosted by TSBE, IOR Director Stewart Morland took home the prestigious award for Industry Legacy and Leadership.

The Surat Basin Energy Awards celebrate the success stories from within Southern Queensland’s Energy Sector and the thriving industries in oil and gas, renewables, and minerals in Australia’s Energy Capital.

The Industry Legacy and Leadership category recognises an individual who has made a lasting impact on the energy sector in the Toowoomba and Surat Basin region through leadership, innovation, community initiatives, expertise, and industry relationships.

Stewart is a life member of the industry, beginning work at the family service station at five years old. In 1993, Stewart owned Northern Territory based Central Oil Refineries and in 1996 joined IOR on an exploration project in the Eromanga basin, discovering one of Australia’s largest onshore oil fields at the time.

Stewart was recognised for his efforts in making sure Queensland gets a fair deal. Under his leadership, IOR has provided the oil and gas sector with fuel security, state of the art fuel management technology, and reliable fuel infrastructure and transport.

Stewart says that security, reliability and integrity is what’s expected of all industry participants.

“IOR is proud to deliver, and we know the journey is never over.

“To us, this means a number of things, including going beyond just fuel storage.

“This means assurance that fuel will be available when a truck pulls in at any of our unmanned truck stops.

“This means assurance that we will deliver to all corners of the Surat and Cooper Basins, so that producers can deliver the energy needed to power households in all corners of Australia.

“And this means that LifeFlight’s fuel tanks will always be filled so they can save another life”, said Stewart.

Indeed, beyond business, Stewart is committed to giving back. He currently serves as Non-Executive Director the TSBE Board, Non-Executive Director on LifeFlight Australia’s Board and Non-Executive Chairman of the LifeFlight Foundation. He’s been instrumental in forging partnerships with organisations that save lives and improve wellbeing; LifeFlight, Heart of Australia, It’s a Bloke Thing, Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service QLD, and Outback Futures.

His philanthropic efforts are grounded in gratitude; never forgetting IOR’s beginnings in Eromanga. For the last 30 years, Stewart has shaped IOR to best serve its customers and communities.

Today, Stewart is a member of the IOR Board of Directors following Stonepeak’s investment in IOR. Stewart remains passionate about enabling the growth of IOR while preserving the company’s deep roots in regional Australia.
